Deviantart!

Well, I've had a Deviantart account for about two years now; however, it has been exceedingly neglected, due to the fact that I do not possess a large amount of artistic talent (aka: I can't draw/paint for shit).

On the other hand, I know how to write up a coherent sentence and I know the basics of Photoshop Elements. So, I therefore think to myself: "Hey, why not visit that good old Deviantart account I had once upon a time, in a land far far away?"

So I subsequently visited this account and posted a couple of scraps which I personally thought were marginally better than some of the other crap I see over Deviantart. Some of my posted works include this (attempted) coloured image of Audrey Hepburn:

Anyway, other lame works include my crappy creative writing story for English (which I shockingly did well in) and some colour splashes.

But, yeah... this is all part of my attempt to become a cool deviantart kid. =DDD

Yay for yet another day off school.

So, guess what? I've got a pretty bad case of influenza and my half yearly exams are in less than two days. How wonderful is that? Everything just seems to be going my way these days... Excuse me while I have a good cry.

Anyway, so I was reading/writing some legal studies notes (may it die) whilst listening to some horrible drill being operated by the obnoxious road workers outside and then all of a sudden, I hear this voice in my head, screaming: "That is the final straw! Begging your pardon while I go post a blog entry, as this is not working for me at all!"

Okay, so I didn't exactly say it like that, but I wanted to. =D

Now, onto a different note. The real reason why I'm posting today is to show you some pretty artworks I found on Deviantart yesterday. I coincidently came across this user named eireen who creates these exceedingly stunning graphic images, which take you into this dark world of enchanted forests, fallen angels, paganism and mythology. So, long story short: They are just darn loverly.

Well, I may be a tad bit weird to find them loverly, but here are some of them just to see what you think:

Anyway, I highly recommend that you take a look at the rest of her gallery, as this is but a taste of her fabulous artworks! My favourite of these is The Queen of Hearts (4th from the top), mainly because it's such an avant garde take on the classic character.

OH, and I'd really love to wish one of my good friends, Angela, a happy birthday! She turns 17 today, and I think we should all sing for her:

Sailor princesses, with a twist;

Okay, so I'm at home, with a cold, trying to do school work, listening to Bjork's version of Gloomy Sunday and chugging chocloate milk, when I say to myself "hey, why don't I add a new blog post!" So, yes, here I am posting a bloggity blog blog.

Well, today's post is going to be kind of similar to the one I did about 'The Regal Twelve', but the artworks I want to show you are very different.

SO, I don't know about all of you, but I'm a huge fan of Sailor Moon. Not only am I a huge fan of Sailor Moon, but I also really, really, really like classic non/Disney animated films. But what's even better than these two awesome fandoms separately, is them combined. That's right, bicthes, you heard it from the best. COMBINED.

Anyway, enough with that. This set of awesome anime style artworks are made by a prosperous Deviantart user named DracheaRannak. You may or may not have heard of him, but this guy is an anime genius. Now, the artworks are seriously (non)Disney princesses/heroines in Sailor Scout form and, let me tell you, they are fan-fucking-tastic. I liked them so much, I even showed them to my mother and, believe me, that's saying something. Okay, so I'm just going to stop with my rambling and post some of the images, just so you can be strcuk by their awesomeness:

Alright, so what do you think? If you ask me, I'd say it's one of the most innovative set of anime artworks I've ever seen. I really love how he has used two categroies he's passionate about and then merging them together to make epicly epic cartoony goodness. What I'd really like him to do (if it's possible), is to turn the Sailor Scouts into animated (non)Disney princesses. Now, Mistoffolees would like that very much. ^.^

'The Regal Twelve' by Alexia Sinclair

Hello all! I'm feeling really bored and I don't have exceedingly serious homework to do (or I'm just not in the damn mood), so I've decided to update. The topic that today's post is going to be based on is a set of artworks that I've been a fan of for ages, but I haven't had the chance to properly express my love towards them.

They're a set of graphic images created by Alexia Sinclair called 'The Regal Twelve'. What she's done is that she's gathered twelve scandalous/infamous women in history and designed an artwork for each of them, telling their story through the symbolism in the images. I have read up on each womans story and I believe that Sinclair has done an awesome job in bringing these women back to life, especially for a more younger and modern generation, which I myself am apart of. But yeah, here they are:


'Eleanor of Aquitaine - The Eagle (1122-1204)'The Eagle: means 'Eleanor'; presents a dopplganger effect
Pregnancy: The birth of her famous son, King Richard the Lionheart
Armor & sword: The manner in which her children turned out
Door: The entrance to her tomb
Coat of Arms: Family symbolism


'Boudica - The Celtic Queen (AD 26 - 61)'
Battlefield: Her triumph as a female warrior
Helmet & sword: Symbolism of Roman mockery and defeat

Russian eggs (Faberges): The past luxuries of the Russian court; decadence
Forest setting: Where the Romanovs' remains were left after they were murdered
Jewel encrusted gown: Signifies the jewels that were sewn into their corsets at the time of the shooting
Stance & facial expression: The disappearance of her daughter, Anastasia


'Elizabeth I - The Virgin Queen (1533 - 1603)'
Chess board: Her life and the many obstacles she faced; The strategic political actions she took
Radiance: Symbolises her 'Virginity'
Orb & sceptre: Her role as queen; reminiscent of her portrait


'Isabella of Spain - The Catholic (1451 - 1504)'
Painting: Siginifies her Christianity; Cathedral setting
Rosary beads & Bible: Once again, her religion
Her stance: Religious fanaticism
Model of a ship: The expeditions she entrusted to Christopher Columbus
The red quill: Death; the Spainish Inquisition
Chili: Signifies the new world


'Agrippina - The Poisoness (AD 15 - 59)'
Her stance: Like a lioness, hence the inclusion of a lion
Mushroom: Her alleged use of a mushroom to poison Claudius
Lion: Also signifies Roman power and nobility
Arch: Roman civilisation


'Marie Antoinette - The Extravagant Queen (1755 - 1793)'
Slice of cake: The splendor and luxury of her life; decadence and excesses
Ballroom: French culture
Painting: The revolution which lead to Antoinette's demise; Napolean Bonaparte who took her place as emperor

I remember that the first one of these artworks I saw was the Catherine image, due to one of my good friends, Louisa, chosing to study her for a Modern History assessment. In her powerpoint she included that image, and I remember the whole class just gasping due to the sheer beauty of it.

Okay, so I've just talked about the symbolism in each one (or rather pin-pointed) but my favourites are certainly Isabella and Alexandra Romanov. The symbolism in them is just fantastic, specifically in the Romanov one. I liked how she used the Eggs to represent not only the luxuries of Russian nobility, but how it also led to the royal family's demise, which I found to be a very creative way to express the tragic story of the Tsar's downfall.

Anyway, these are a very lovely way to tell these womens' stories and to get people interested in the magic of history. If I could be bothered I would write a full paragraph about each woman's story, but sincerely, I can't. It's way too much effort.

Overall, Sinclair has done a great job in mixing traditional painting with digital design, but I, however, found myself least interested in Cleopatra. I don't know if it was the actual artwork or if the persona of Cleopatra never really interested me, but I think it may be the latter, due to the fact that the artwork actually is quite lovely and does represent Cleo as what she truly is... A tragic skank-face.

Much better

Hello my little scrumple-muffins (don't ask). Good news: I've decided that this is probably going to be a daily blog, but it also kind of depends on how I feel and whether I'm busy or not. Not to mention that lately I've been overtly enthusiastic about my blog, primarily because blogging is something new to me, sooo I'm not entirely sure if this inspritation will stay for long... Example of my inspiration withering: I didn't update yesterday, BUT I do have a reason for that, thank you very much. :/

Anyway, d'you remember that last post how I was just rambling about the nightmare-ish slowness of my internet (that's the reason)? Yeah, well it's much better now and I can actually upload a couple of images like I promised. Excitement!

So, here they are:

Judging by our ecstatic facial expressions, you can just tell that the walk was fab.

This is mainly what our day consisted of.
The Waters of Mars was possibly one of the most epic things I've ever seen.


Since I'm a huge fan of Vogue, I took advantage of Caroline's
Italian Vogue Magazine. This was my favourite image,
due to her short Shirley Temple-like hair, smokey eyes, checked shirt, leather jacket and cig.

I also spent a large amount of the day looking at Caroline's Favole
books by Victoria Frances. I love these books and their gothic imagery.
They're filled with vampires, faeries, ghosts, demonic children and other strange things.
Here are some of my faves:

As you can see, I'm really into the whole harlequin scene. I don't know what it is that appeals to me about it... I guess it's just the whole facepaint, neck-ruffles, jumpsuits etc... But rather surprisingly, my favourite of these gorgeous artworks is the last one.


Victoria Frances, in her books, writes a story to go with each image, but I personally find her descriptive language horribly boring, therefore I didn't bother reading the story behind it (though maybe I probably should've). None the less, this artwork exudes so much emotion. It's as if the main subject of the image had a love or a meaningful somebody lost at sea. Just look at the ghost ship... It's evident, not only through the woman's pose and facial expression, but also through the image's isolated setting and gloomy colour toning, that many loved ones have departed due to the ocean's demands. It's soo intense it makes me wee myself... No, but seriously people, this artwork is beautiful. It sort of reminds me of a song by Nightwish called The Islander, which is a very sad, celtic-like song, about a man lost at sea. =(

Anyway, today was my first real day of school, though nothing much really happened. I spent most of it running liturgies or stressing about the amount of math homework I should've done over the summer, rather than actually having enjoyed my break. Come to think of it, I should be starting right now, but I'd rather just chill... or maybe chilling isn't an option? Gah, I fail at life. :/

Oh, and just to lighten up the mood a bit, I've picked my MV of the week, and I shall be posting it on friday. It's short, but sweet.
